get off my case

JULY 2017/ 2018 / TRAVEL / FIJI
must do's :
1. Cloud 9, Roro Reef
where to stay
The name literally says it all, you're on a bar in the middle of the sea, completely isolated from land. It's pretty overwhelming when the sea is crystal blue, the sun is shining and you see turtles and fish swim past you while you're chillllllling with a cocktail in your hand. To get to Cloud 9, you depart from Denarau Port, which is amazing in itself (full of shops and places to eat) and you head over in a jet boat to the 'cloud.' Cloud 9 is the only two story Pizzeria and Bar that's in the sea in the world and is probably on my top 3 things to do in Fiji. Out of every human being in the world, it was madness that i met a dude on board that was from Swansea (always exciting and lush to meet a fellow Welshie) and everyone gets talking and dancing which creatives an awesome vibe. Included in the price you pay to get there, is a pizza and drink of your choice which makes it sooooo super reasonable for the price, working out at about £50 - £80 for a trip there. Cloud nine often have events on so different DJ'S and themes which are always advertised on their insta @cloud9_fiji , you can either go in the morning or evening, i did the morning and would love to go again while the sun goes down.
2. Beachcomber Island

Honest to Ghaaaaawd, this place truly is the definition of paradise. Your white sand, transparent sea heaven. As you can sea (harhar), it's literally a little island where you can chill, eat, drink, snorkel, take part in sea activities (jet ski, turtle hunt etc etc), they have loads of cocktails to choose from too which is always a plus hehe. You can actually do a double trip to beachcomber and cloud 9 which is awesome! You get to spend around half a day here, sun bathing, doing your thing, and get a bite too eat too. There's also a pool on the island so if the sea isn't your thing then you've got somewhere to cooooool down.
3. Volunteering

In all honesty, every time I've travelled, I've stayed in resorts and villas etc with my family or friends, this was my first trip completely away from that, flying on my own and volunteering, staying with the community and working in the local school with all the kids. I can genuinely say that it was one of the most rewarding, perspective changing things that i've ever done. But how typical does that sound? As true as it is, i think i've heard every person that's travelled say the same thing. We live in a world where my generation, millennials, love to capture the instagram worthy shot, live in glamour with the best cars, clothes, hair and make up, and sometimes takes you away from things and life realisations that help us grow and truly be happy. Volunteering, actually LIVING in a different world without the things we consider 'necessities' instead of just witnessing it, really really does take you a step back to realising what true happiness is and what's important. You also create this circle of giving and receiving, travelling and seeing places is obviously exciting and good for a person, but even better and more important to try and give back to these places. Travel Teacher, the company i volunteered with, gave me the perfect mix, from volunteering and living in Namatakula to visiting places like Cloud 9 and beachcomber, again, you subconsciously have a comparison in your head of the bare minimal to the luxuriousnesses of the world. It's all a bit mad and i could go on forever. But if there's one thing you do whether it be in Fiji or anywhere else, it would be to volunteer in some way.
4. Sabeto Hot Springs, Nadi

So, this beautiful little place is known as the Sabeto hot springs, and i didn't expect it to be as beautiful as it was, the scenery was insane and so was the experience. After the mud bath, you enter a few different pools which get hotter and hotter as you go on, relaxing but hard to handle when the sun is shining !!! The mud is awesome for your skin and there are also locals selling super cute bracelets, keyrings and little bits and bobs.
5. Biasevu Waterfalls, Sigatoka

Absolute natural beauty - although the water is iiiiiice cold, it's super refreshing and lush when it's boiling. As you can see via the dude climbing on the left hahaha, you can also climb up and jump from the side which of course i tried while whining the whole time (it's higher than it looks). The trek up to the water fall is beautiful too, and beforehand you are welcomed into the village with a Cava ceremony. (Cava being this muddy looking drink made from plants, and is a cultural welcoming / accepting gesture /act ).
